For over 30 years, Tara O’Malley built a career in business. Today, she’s a Master Health Coach based in Levin, working with people navigating autoimmune conditions and mental health challenges throughout New Zealand. Her own path to coaching started with a diagnosis, and a discovery that her body could heal.
Tara has healed her own Graves’ disease through lifestyle and gut health changes, an experience that shapes everything about how she coaches today. She knows what it feels like to be exhausted, dismissed and stuck, still showing up for everyone else while quietly wondering if she’d ever feel like herself again.
“So what makes a great health coach?” Tara asks. Her answer: someone who really listens, who loves people, and who leans in to hear what their clients are saying, backed by a little science along the way. Finding PREKURE Tara’s introduction to PREKURE came through a friend, who invited her to the Future of Medicine conference in Auckland a few years ago. She hadn’t heard of PREKURE before, but she already knew of Professor Grant Schofield and his work.
Once she arrived, it was the research, the platform and the people that stood out. She found the programme easy to navigate and the team welcoming from the start. Along the way, she met people who would become lasting connections.
As Tara puts it, PREKURE is where she found her tribe. Coaching from lived experience For Tara, health coaching is about figuring out where someone is now and where they want to be, then mapping out the steps to get there. Her approach is practical, honest and grounded in real life, because that’s where real behaviour change happens. She works with clients navigating autoimmune conditions and mental health challenges, and has a particular passion for gut health, which she sees as central to so much of the healing process.
Her guiding belief is simple: our bodies are clever, and they remember how to heal themselves. Building community Alongside her one-on-one coaching, Tara is now building a community for people who are ready to heal and be heard. It’s a natural extension of what drew her to PREKURE in the first place: the science, the support, and the people who show up for one another.
