Bridget and her colleague Nikki run a women’s wellness haven, Nourishing You, offering one-on-one coaching, workshops, and women’s wellness. Their focus is all about helping and guiding women towards reaching their health goals for themselves and their families.
How did you originally become interested in health and lifestyle medicine and how has becoming a PreKure Certified Health Coach impacted your life?
I always loved playing a lot of sport when I was younger and have always enjoyed an active lifestyle. Prior to becoming a PreKure certified Health Coach in March 2020 I was a Physical Education and Health Teacher. PE teaching started my passion in health and nutrition, which grew as I got older and became a mother. I enjoy providing healthy nutritious food for my family and educating my children about why healthy eating is so important.
My favourite part of studying with PreKure was the coaching labs. The labs were interesting, practical and challenging.
Becoming a Health Coach is something I thought about doing for a long time and when I heard about PreKure from a friend, I immediately liked that it was NZ-based and I loved their message ‘Prevention is Cure’.
My favourite part of studying with PreKure was the coaching labs. The labs were interesting, practical and challenging. I met many wonderful people during the coaching labs, who I have continued to keep in contact with and we have become good supporters of each other and our health coaching businesses.
While I was studying with PreKure, I started a health coaching business with a good friend of mine who is also a Health Coach. Our business is called Nourishing You and our target group is women aged 35+. My business partner and I have our own one-on-one clients, and together we also run workshops for women on topics such as gut health, children’s lunchboxes and snacks, women’s wellness and cleanses. We are very lucky to be able to run our workshops from the Miele Experience Centre in Auckland City. Together we have a shared passion for helping and guiding women towards reaching their health goals for themselves and their families.
Often we don’t know the true impact we are having on a person’s life at the time, and we need to continue to trust the process and our ability.
Would you like to share any client success stories or a big ‘aha’ moment in your coaching career?
It’s easy to doubt ourselves and question if we are ‘doing it right’ or making an impact on our clients’ lives. My first client was someone who didn’t give a lot of feedback so I was never quite sure how our coaching sessions were going. A couple of months after she finished her initial 6 sessions she contacted me and said how helpful our sessions had been for her and she wanted to see me on an ongoing monthly basis. This was an ‘aha’ moment for me as it made me realise that often we don’t know the true impact we are having on a person’s life at the time, and we need to continue to trust the process and our ability.
What advice do you have for others thinking about starting their study journey with PreKure?
My advice is to take the leap and just do it! The support from the PreKure team has been very good, they genuinely want us to succeed and become the best health coaches we can. Once qualified, PreKure provides ongoing coaching, business and nutrition support. Health coaching is going to become more and more important as people realise how valuable and helpful it is to have someone to guide them on their health and wellness journey. We have coaches for so many other aspects of our lives – so why not have one for our health – the most important thing we have!
