This Certificate is designed to equip you with the latest science in lifestyle medicine for mild to moderate mental health challenges, with a focus on preventative and lifestyle approaches.

    The Certificate in Mental Health Science gives you a university-level education in mental health. You’ll come away with a solid foundation in the science of lifestyle medicine for mental health, including micronutrition and behaviour therapy, including ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy).

    All courses and interactive labs can be accessed from the convenience of your computer, smartphone or tablet, and all from the comfort of your own home. 

    You will have up to 12 months to complete the Certification. Typical completion time is 4.5 months with a time commitment of 5 hours per week.

    When does the Certificate start and finish?

    The Certificate in Mental Health Science can be started immediately, at any time during the year. The courses that make up the Certificate are available for you to start and complete in your own time and at your own pace with online, 24/7 access.

    You have 12 months to complete all six of the courses to gain your Certificate in Mental Health Science.

    How long does it take to complete the Certificate in Mental Health Science?

    Around 4.5 months, with a weekly commitment of 5 hours study. You have a maximum of 12 months to complete the Certificate.

    Can I go at my own pace?

    Yes. You can do the Certificate in your own time and at your own pace, with online 24/7 access. You have 12 months to complete the six courses that make up the Certificate.

    Can I do this Certificate to begin with, then upgrade to the Advanced Certificate in Mental Health later?

    Yes, you can start your training with the Certificate in Mental Health Science, and if you choose to, upgrade to the Advanced Certificate in Mental Health at a later date.

    What's the difference between this Certificate and the Advanced Certificate in Mental Health?

    PREKURE offers 2 types of Mental Health Certification.

    (1) The Certificate in Mental Health Science as outlined on this page is designed for people who want to upskill their personal knowledge in mental health or health professionals who want to learn the very latest science and practices for mental health. It is made up of six online theory based courses (PK301-PK306).

    (2) The Advanced Certificate in Mental Health is designed primarily for those who are already trained in health coaching or for health professionals who want to extend their mental health expertise. It is made up of the six online theory based courses included in this Certificate in Mental Health Science plus 12 x interactive labs (over 20 hours) to learn and practice coaching skills for mental health.

    Has this Certificate been assessed by NZQA for micro-credentialing?

    Yes. The New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) ensures that New Zealand qualifications are valued as credible and robust, both nationally and internationally.

    The  New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) has evaluated the Certificate in Mental Health Science (Micro-credential) delivered by PREKURE and has assessed it to equivalent to 21 credits (21 x 10 notional learning hours) at Level 6 on the New Zealand Qualifications Framework (NZQF).

    The Australian Qualifications Framework has equivalency with the NZQA e.g. Level 6 microcredential with NZQA is the
    same as Level 6 on AQF.

    Is this Certificate recognised internationally?

    Yes. We follow the International Coaches Federation (ICF) core competencies, definition of coaching and code of ethics. We are a recognised training provider for Health Coaches Australia and New Zealand Association (HCANZA), the Canadian Health Coach Alliance, and the United Kingdom Health Coaches Association (UKHCA).

    Do I need to be a Health Coach or have any previous learning in the health field?

    No. There is no prior learning required for entry into this Certificate.

    What does the assessment involve?

    Complete all online modules (PK301-306) and online assessments by passing all tests with 75% or more.

    If I complete the Certificate in Mental Health Science will I qualify as a Mental Health Coach?

    No. You will graduate with your Certificate in Mental Health Science.

    This Certificate covers the theory of lifestyle medicine for mental health. To qualify as a Mental Health Coach, you must also:

    1. Complete the practical coaching skills live labs as included in the Advanced Certificate in Mental Health, plus

    2. Undertake our Health Coaching Training to learn the core foundational skills of health coaching.

    You can certainly choose to become a Mental Health Coach in the future after completing this Certificate. Please contact us to discuss your upgrade options.

    How do I know this Certificate is credible and contains correct information?

    The Certificate is scientifically-based and evidence-informed with full academic references provided for all materials. It is taught by our highly qualified, world-class teaching Faculty with extensive real-world experience including the renowned Prof Julia Rucklidge, Prof Clinical Psychology at University of Canterbury and Professor of Public Health Grant Schofield.

    Do I get lifetime access to the course content?

    No. All PREKURE course content is available for 12 months from the date you enrol. 

    However graduates can retain access to their course content by joining the PREKURE Postgrad Network, an exclusive membership offering postgraduate professional support to PREKURE graduates. This includes access to updated content, resources and references as we continue to develop and re-release courses.

    What payment options are there?

    You can either pay upfront in 1 payment, or take advantage of our 6 and 12 month payment plans.

    6 month payment plan: Pay an additional 5% and split your payment into 6 monthly payments.
