Module 1: What Are Neurons And How Do They Work?

In this module, you’ll learn the basics of neuroscience and how the human brain works. Here you will explore brain cells and how they communicate with one another on an electrical and chemical level, along with the concept of neuroplasticity and how the brain changes and adapts across the lifespan.

Module 2: The Human Brain Structure And Function

In this module, you’ll learn about the structure of the human brain and understand that different areas are responsible for different functions. You’ll learn about neurodevelopmental milestones, understand the impact of lifestyle on brain development and health, and explore what can cause trauma and damage to the brain.

Module 3: A Socially Connected Brain And The Gut-Brain Axis

This module explores the social theory of brain health. You’ll learn about how the gut and brain are intricately connected and how they communicate bi-directionally with one another.

Module 4: The Serotonin And Glutamate Hypotheses

In this module, you will learn about the traditional model of brain health, known as the serotonin model, and explore an emergent model of brain health – the glutamate hypothesis. This promising model of brain health highlights both why and how lifestyle medicine can be used to improve mental wellbeing.
