Module 1: What Is Substance Misuse And Addiction?

In this module you will learn about the basics of addiction. Join PREKURE certified health coach and registered nurse, Lisa Burch, as she delves into addiction. Learn what addiction is, and how it’s diagnosed as well as form an understanding of how our conceptualisation and knowledge of addiction has changed in recent years.

Module 2: Why Do We Get Addicted?

In this module, you will learn about the difference between addiction and dependency, the emerging concept of behavioural addiction and form an understanding of factors that can contribute to addiction. Delve into the science of genetics and epigenetics and the profound impact that trauma and adverse childhood experiences can have on the risk of addiction.

Module 3: Alcohol Addiction

In this module, you will learn about alcohol addiction, explore the impact of society on the development of alcohol misuse and addiction, the biology of how alcohol affects the body and brain, the long-term health impacts of drinking and consequences for sleep.

Module 4: Recovery And Growth Through Addiction Part 1

In this module, you will hear about Lisa’s life experience with addiction, be introduced to some of the key tools used in recovery (like substitution therapies and medications for alcohol) by Dr Catherine Crofts, and learn about some Stoic tools that can be used to assist clients as they overcome addiction from Paul Taylor.

Module 5: Recovery And Growth Through Addiction Part 2

In this module you will learn about practical tools you can use in your conversations with clients when exploring addictive behaviors. Follow along as Prof Grant Schofield and Lisa Burch discuss the brain and body budget, how ACT tools can be used for addiction, and the Health Coach approach to addiction.

When does the course start and finish?
