Positive Medicine: Philosophy, Process, Experience

The reductionist medical model was considered outdated and even harmful to patients in the 1970s. And yet, here it is 50 years later, forming the basis for failing healthcare systems around the world.

Occupational Physician Dr David Beaumont will present his view as to how it could be different, as captured in his award-winning book Positive Medicine: Disrupting the Future of Medical Practice.

Join us for this online session as David discusses:

  • 50 years to a concept of health – David’s personal journey
  • The operationalisation of the Māori Model of Health, Te Whare Tapa Whā
  • Gayle’s story – a client’s journey to recovery
  • The Fulton Hogan challenge: “Well this isn’t going to work!”
  • The Cromwell Experiment – community health and wellbeing
  • The health of doctors (hint: it’s not good)
