Annual Declaration

PREKURE Health Coaches who wish to use the PREKURE Certified Brand Marks are required to provide PREKURE with an annual declaration that they have maintained current membership with a suitable professional body and met any other applicable ongoing requirements.  This confirms to us that you’re staying current in your learning and maintaining health coaching competency as a PREKURE Health Coach.

The declaration must be made every year once a Health Coach has received PREKURE’s Certified Brand Marks and associated material. PREKURE requires that Health Coaches provide their confirmation every year, and will notify Health Coaches when this is due.

The current requirements are:

  • All PREKURE Health Coaches must hold and maintain current registration through a Health Coaching or other professional body that is acceptable to PREKURE (examples include HCANZA, UKIHCA and Physiotherapy NZ).
  • Mental Health Coaches must additionally have completed 4 x annual supervision sessions in the previous 12 months.

Health Coaches who do not complete their annual declaration cannot continue to use the PREKURE Health Coach brand name and mark, and (if applicable) will not be listed on PREKURE’s Find a Health Coach online directory.

Please complete the below form to declare that you hold a current registration through a Health Coaching or other professional body (e.g. HCANZA, UKIHCA, Physiotherapy NZ etc).

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the Health Coach Annual Declaration requirements?

Each year we ask you to submit a declaration that you are registered with (and therefore maintaining your continuing professional development (CPD)) through a Health Coaching or other health professional body that is acceptable to PREKURE (e.g. HCANZA, UKIHCA, Physiotherapy NZ). If you’re a Mental Health Coach, you’ll also need to confirm that you’ve completed your required 4 x annual supervision sessions.

What are the benefits of professional body membership?

Membership with a professional body, including keeping up with their CPD requirements, provides assurance that your practise is current, safe and accountable.  PREKURE requires this before you can use (or continue to use) PREKURE’s brand marks or ask to be placed on PREKURE’s Find a Health Coach online directory.

But there are other real benefits to professional body membership:

  • Maintaining your own learning, growth and competency,
  • Connecting with other members, and the knowledge and opportunities they might offer,
  • Demonstrating to the public, and your clients, that you are a responsible professional,
  • Special benefits, such as lower rates on insurance coverage,
  • Mitigating your risk, for example, if you ever received a Health & Disability Commissioner complaint.

Different professional bodies may offer different advantages, and we recommend giving some thought to the organisation which will benefit you the most.

What are the requirements for Mental Health Coaches?

You must undergo 4 x supervision sessions per year with a mental health professional. The purpose of these sessions is to ensure that mental health coaches receive necessary support, guidance, and oversight to maintain the highest standard of care and professional development. We recommend that Mental Health coaching supervision is undertaken with a registered psychologist or a health professional with specific training in supervision. At PREKURE, Sharon Tomkins, Sonya English and Sophia Dawson are all recommended coaches for supervision, but you are welcome to work with a suitably qualified independent supervisor.

Who can use the PREKURE Certified brand mark?

Persons who have successfully graduated as a PREKURE Health Coach are offered the opportunity to receive and use the PREKURE Certified brand mark, provided they agree to follow the PREKURE Certified Brand Mark Terms available at: https://prekure.com/prekure-copyright-logo-and-certified-brand-mark-guidelines/

As part of that agreement, Health Coaches are required to meet the requirements on this webpage, including being registered with a professional body, and to make an Annual Declaration.

Why? This confirms to us that you’re staying current in your learning and maintaining health coaching competency, and is one of the ways we ensure the ongoing quality and integrity of PREKURE Health Coaches. It also protects our marks and ensures that they are used in a responsible way, for the benefit of all persons using and relying on them.

If a Health Coach stops complying with the PREKURE Certified Brand Mark Terms (for example, by misusing our marks or by ceasing to meet the requirements on this webpage), they will need to stop using the PREKURE Certified Brand Mark and other materials they have received from us.

How can I be listed in PREKURE's online directory?

PREKURE lists a number of its Certified Health Coaches on its website through PREKURE’s Find a Health Coach online directory.  This is arranged on a case-by-case basis with individual Health Coaches, and individuals may be listed on or removed from PREKURE’s website at PREKURE’s discretion.  If you would like to enquire about being placed on the website, please contact our Student Success Team at [email protected].

What is HCANZA?

HCANZA is the Health Coaching professional body for Australia and New Zealand. There are strict training and assessment rules around who qualifies for membership. PREKURE chooses to be a member of this professional body to ensure the ongoing quality and integrity of Health Coaches as a profession. HCANZA exists to be the platform for the unity of the profession of health and wellness coaches in Australia and New Zealand. Upholding the highest standards of professional training and ongoing education of its members is one key way to achieve this.

Do I need to be a member of HCANZA?

PREKURE strongly recommends that its Certified Health Coaches who reside in Australia or New Zealand hold professional membership with HCANZA. PREKURE Certified Health Coaches who reside in Canada or the United Kingdom are strongly recommended to become a professional member of the Canadian and/or UK Health Coach Associations.

HCANZA also offers insurance through their membership. It is up to you as an individual as to whether or not you get insurance. However, if you are running your own business as a Health Coach it is strongly advised you obtain this. See the HCANZA website for more details.

Some Health Coaches may wish to be a member of a different professional body.  For example, some Health Coaches with a background in health may already have a membership with an association like Physiotherapy NZ.  If you would like to be a member of a different professional body from the ones discussed above, please consider contacting PREKURE first to ensure that they are a suitable choice.  We can be contacted at [email protected].
