Q&A: Jaala Dyer

Meet Jaala Dyer, a certified Health Coach, specialising in metabolic health and weight loss and a proud graduate of PREKURE.

What was life like before you became a Health Coach?

I was a business owner experiencing burnout, leading the life of an expat wife. I was enjoying the good life but realised that it was taking a toll on my well-being.

What motivated you to become a Health Coach?

My motivation came from my own journey to find wellbeing and feel my best. I realised the importance of balancing my values and priorities, with a core focus on wellbeing. I wanted to make wellbeing a daily priority, not just for myself but also for others.

What aspect of health coaching are you especially passionate about?

I’m particularly passionate about metabolic health, especially in relation to conditions like diabetes and food addiction. I believe that understanding the distinction between real food and highly processed, unhealthy alternatives is key to improving wellbeing.

How has being a Health Coach enriched your life personally and professionally?

On a personal level, it has anchored my core values of wellbeing and feeling good at the forefront of my daily life. Every day, I get to work towards enhancing my own wellbeing and that of my clients. Professionally, I find fulfillment in helping others achieve their health and wellness goals, making a positive impact on their lives.

What are you doing now as a Health Coach?

I am a Lead Health Coach at Reversal NZ, a Lifestyle Medicine Clinic in Taupo and I lead a team of Health Coaches, each who have their own specialities. At Reversal NZ we’re really passionate about the powerful GP – Health coach combination, and this is one of the keys to our success in reversing chronic conditions such as diabetes. The wrap-around team approach is something our clients love and it’s where we see the biggest wins, as they’re supported through lifestyle changes. Every day is different for our Health Coaches – we get to meet and support clients in our clinic in Taupo, but also via Zoom all over New Zealand.

What advice would you give others considering a career in health coaching, especially those coming from a similar background?

I would advise them to choose a training provider that stays at the cutting edge of science. I initially enrolled in a university program but quickly realised that the information was outdated compared to what I was learning at PREKURE. My message is clear: opt for a training program that offers the most current and evidence-based knowledge.
