Q&A: Katherine’s Journey

Meet Katherine Froggatt, a Health Coach specialising in Mental Fitness and Cancer Coaching.

What were you doing before you became a Health Coach?

Before my transformation into a Health Coach, I was deeply involved in corporate leadership. I’ve held positions as an Associate Advertising Director in the media and publishing industries, and I was also a Sales and Marketing Manager at Chris Jolly Outdoors. However, my journey took a significant turn when I was diagnosed with cancer, which sparked my interest in health and wellbeing.

What motivated you to become a Health Coach?

My cancer diagnosis was a pivotal moment in my life. It made me rethink my approach to health and wellbeing. I’ve always been interested in nutrition, and my own experience reinforced the importance of lifestyle interventions in preventing chronic illnesses. This motivated me to become a Health Coach and share my knowledge and experiences to help others.

What are you doing now since graduating as a Health Coach?

I’ve embarked on a journey to set up my own coaching business ‘Katherine Froggatt Mental Fitness & Cancer Coaching’ and I’m now working full-time, offering one-on-one coaching to predominantly women struggling with burnout, addictive behaviours, and cancer diagnoses. My focus is on helping them regain control, build confidence, and feel energised. Additionally, I deliver workplace wellbeing programs, including seminars and workshops, and I’m part of ‘The Cancer Coach’ team as a Team Coach and Business Development Lead in New Zealand and Australia.

Is there a particular aspect of health coaching that you are especially passionate about?

I’m particularly passionate about delivering workplace wellbeing programs. Seeing how my knowledge lights up participants and inspires them to get curious about their physical and mental health is incredibly fulfilling. When I hear that our seminars and workshops inspire people to take actionable steps toward behavioural and lifestyle changes, I feel a deep sense of achievement. Given the rising rate of cancer diagnoses, I believe that working with groups is an effective way to create awareness and reach more people.

Could you share a specific success story where your coaching has made a significant positive impact on a client’s life?

One of the most rewarding experiences I’ve had as a Health Coach was working with a client who suffered from anxiety, chronic stress, weight gain, and fatigue. During a coaching session, we went for a walk and had a fantastic conversation. The client later texted me, saying, “Thank you for the walk yesterday; it really gave me a boost. It’s great to know you have my back, and your unwavering support gives me hope for a healthier and happier future.”

As a Health Coach, what challenges have you faced?

I’ve faced challenges related to maintaining healthy boundaries with clients who may be more fragile. Supervision has been crucial to navigating these situations. Another challenge is ensuring a steady income flow for my business while managing operating costs and meeting financial commitments. As a solo entrepreneur, I have multiple responsibilities, including coaching, administration, business development, sales, and marketing, which can be overwhelming at times.

How has your PREKURE training prepared you for real-world scenarios you encounter as a Health Coach?

The training I received from PREKURE has equipped me with the knowledge and skills necessary for health coaching. The modules covered various aspects of health coaching, including mental health coaching. Having real-life coaches and experts deliver the content has been invaluable. The support and community within the PREKURE Network have allowed me to connect with experienced coaches who inspire me.

How has being a Health Coach enriched your life personally and professionally?

Health coaching has significantly enriched my life on a personal level. I’ve learned how to use coaching language to support my family members, including my kids and husband, in meaningful conversations, especially during challenging times. On a professional level, being a Health Coach has enabled me to empower my clients to find their own answers through powerful questions and curiosity. Witnessing my clients take back agency and regain confidence is incredibly fulfilling.

What advice would you give to others considering a career or upskilling in health coaching, especially if they are coming from a similar background as yours?

Your lived experience is valuable and unique to you. If you feel the calling to share your story and help others prevent the same painful experiences you’ve endured, consider a career in health coaching. By joining us in the mission to change the way we live and reverse the statistics of chronic illnesses, you’ll inspire others and make a positive impact on their lives.

What has it meant to you to be part of the PREKURE community and contribute to the transformation of our healthcare system?

Being part of the PREKURE community has boosted my confidence in health coaching and lifestyle medicine. It has helped me let go of what no longer serves me and build new foundations for wellbeing. As part of the coaching arena with lead Health Coaches, I’ve felt supported and encouraged to live well and embrace a healthier lifestyle.

Health coaching is a fulfilling and enriching career, and I’m breaking the cycle of poor health outcomes to create a better future for myself and future generations.

What does the future look like for you?

My mission is to reduce the incidence of cancer through lifestyle interventions. I work with women struggling with burnout, addictive behaviours, and chronic illness diagnoses to help them build mental fitness and regain confidence. In the coming years, I plan to offer workplace wellbeing programs focusing on improving metabolic health to prevent chronic illness. I also aim to become a motivational speaker at wellbeing conferences and a certified EFT practitioner to help clients navigate past trauma. Additionally, I aspire to become a supervisor and support other health coaches in building their coaching businesses.

Is there anything else you would like to share with anyone considering a career as a Health Coach?

Investing in yourself is an empowering act of love. Health coaching has not only been an investment for myself but also for my family’s future and the future of generations to come. We have the power to break the cycle of poor health outcomes and create a brighter, healthier future. Join me on this transformative journey!
